What to Expect in Worship
WHAT TO EXPECT IN WORSHIP
WHEN & WHERE?
Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary at Longview UMC. 188 Longview Rd. Starkville, MS. You're invited to stay for Sunday School following worship.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
We are a casual church. People come to worship wearing everything from blue jeans and t-shirts to Sunday dresses.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU SING?
Mostly, we sing traditional Methodist hymns, accompanied by a piano. Occasionally, we have guest music leaders who lead us in different types of music.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I PLAN FOR?
Worship begins at 9:30 and we are almost always wrapping up by 10:30.
WHAT ABOUT MY CHILDREN?
We love having children in worship! In fact, on most Sundays you will find children leading worship by lighting candles, carrying offering plates, participating in the children’s sermon, and collecting spare change for mission projects. At Longview, we believe it’s ok for children to act like children, even in worship! So if kids are fussy or fidgety, we celebrate them for who they are.
DO YOU CELEBRATE THE LORD'S SUPPER?
Yes! We join together for Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. As United Methodists, we believe that all who come seeking God are welcome at the table. You do not have to be Methodist or even baptized to receive and children of all ages are invited to receive at Christ's table.
